A little birdie told me today that the Skipper of a large catamaran starting with P and finishing with Peccadillo placed an order with e-marineworld.com.au for a HF radio and Sat phone.

General Meeting
Due to the lack of numbers for dinner before the meeting at RMYS this Tuesday, there will be no meals provided at the club. Anyone wanting a meal should meet around 6pm and we will walk across the road and crab some tucker.
Remember meeting starts at 7.30pm so don't be late, lots to go though.

Mark Staffords Baby delivered safe.
Fellow members; Well you had the Royal Wedding and now you have the Royal Birth? That’s right folks, Mark Stafford’s golden child has arrived.
After months of listening to him crapping on about his fantastic creation, many thought it was a figment of his imagination, I can report, I have actually seen it.
Mark tells me it will be on the water by the next Audi Victoria Week, THAT’S 2012!! “I’d like to see that”. Anyone getting a boat built overseas or buying a boat, come a talk to Mark about the joys of importing a vessel. Two large things are needed, ones a wallet!!!

General Meeting
Remember next Tuesday 17th May is our next general meeting at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron. Terry Jones from Seawind Catamarans is guest speaker. Lots to talk about, new boats, Marley Point, 3 Peaks and The Gladstone.
So far 3 people have indicated dinner at the club before the meeting. If the numbers don’t increase we will have to go some where else for a quick bite. Let me know if you are interested?????
Congratulations to Charles and crew for winning the 2011 Three Peaks Race. Charles will be along to the meeting so looking forward to the details of how they pulled it off.

Easter on the Gippsland lakes.
Lisa from Chilli send me this photo of little Sknot taking her first steps, with a few words about the weekend. Can you believe it, the kite matches the boat and the mast!!!!! GREENNN
Boats sailing in our division were Triple Espresso, Spud Gun, chilli, Sayanara(cant spell this one), Sknot and many mosquitos, stingrays etc...
Days were perfect. Saturday was the Classic 30 mile up the straights dodging the Raymond Island Ferry and out down around fixed marks and then back up through Metung and to a mark off Bancroft Bay. Winds were good and some marks hard to find, Sknot enjoyed their first race and discovered a list of things that they need to purchase (all in good time)...
Chilli raced well but ran into a mud bank at the back on Raymond Island much to Spud Guns laughter and delight. Geoff won mug of the day award for this and as many drinks as he could stand. Well worth it we thought. The Gippsland Yacth club put on a great regatta and was enjoyed by all, especially the cash prizes!!!! The yacth club also put on saftey demonstrations and flags information for the novices.
Sknot enjoyed 4th place in the around Raymond Island Race with Chilli taking first. Craig, Chris and Libby have found that for the time being a few beverages is much needed before a race to still any nerves and tension until they iron out the bugs in Sknot!
Overall a thouroughly enjoyable weekend, it is a relaxing and fun regatta that Gippsland should be proud of.

Australian Three Peaks Race
Report from Sail World.- The powerful Victorian catamaran Peccadillo, skippered by Charles Meredith, this morning has broken away from the fleet as she heads towards the Tasmanian east coast on the second leg of the Australian Three Peaks Race.
Peccadillo set sail from Lady Barron on the long second sea leg to Coles Bay shortly before 0600 this morning after a fast run across the paddocks of Flinders Island to the granite outcrop of Mount Strzelecki and return by team runners Richard Bowles and Chris Wright, both from Melbourne.
Their time was 7 hours 16 minutes, but this was bettered by Team Slingshot’s runners, Clarke McClymont and Matt Cooper, who covered the 65 km in under seven hours.
This enabled Team Slingshot, a five times line honours winner of the Three Peaks Race, but now skippered by Jean-Pierre Ravanat of Hobart, to get away from Lady Barron in second place at 07:22, followed by Haphazard (Bruce Edmunds) and VisitFlindersIsland.com (Steve Laird).
Shortly after 09:00, Peccadillo was 22 nautical miles ENE of Swan Island, with 228 nautical miles to the finish of the four-day endurance combination of ocean racing and mountain running. The second stopover is at Coles Bay on the east coast and the finish at Hobart, with a climb to the peak of Mount Wellington and back.

The next club meeting will be held on 17th May 2011 at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in “The Wet Bar” situated on the 1st floor.

Last year Seawind Catamarans took over Corsair Marine the builder of the famous Chilli (current AVW winner) and Frassld (current National Champion)
It will be interesting to hear the outcome of this and their future direction.
Mark Stafford’s new boat arrives this month from Melvest marine and will give a us a brief on this new boat adventures. Apparently it will sail faster than it took to build. I received this short email from Mark. Well, the gestation period is coming to a close. With the help of Dr.Tony Considine and his crew my baby will be arriving at (we think) 10am to be placed on the ground. Either the tractor or the 4x4 will be used to extract my baby and show her the Australian sunshine for the first time. One very excited father to be, good luck with the birth.
This is a great opportunity to catch up and have a look around one of Melbourne’s oldest yacht clubs. Get back to me about meals and feel free to bring a
