W.A.F.I.R 2013

Well it started with a nice cruise up from Hastings on Friday With Adele, then the normal challenge getting to the inside of the pontoon (very shallow) at Warneet it was great to see the defender "Xanadu" Terry's pink cat ready as well, soon after Tom arrived with "Hunters Moon" another F31, from Newhaven, and then Jason with "Knot Trying" the F720 extended. Mark, Geoff and lisa the crew were down for pizza and a few drinks at the club. Well the early starters got a good bacon and egg breky, but some of our fellow multihullers missed out. So we headed out to the start area and a couple of the hastings boats were missing but with a couple of minutes to go "Mustang Sally" and "Rainbow 2" turned up but "Sknot" seemed to be abit late, the wind had built to a good 20 + from the ENE so even with the funny sequence (10 5 go) we managed a good start and soon rolled over "Rainbow 2" for a big beat across the top of French Island. As we thought we would be early for the high tide at the hump we decided to tack up the Boulton channel until we could pull up the board untie the rudder and crack of for a great reach to Spit Pt, all was going well with a good lead then the main halyard broke and the sail was down. Mustang and Rainbow were past by the time we had re hoisted on the screacher halyard to the 1st reef and hoisted the kite for a long ride down past Corinella and across to THB now in 2nd place we managed to sort of catch Mustang for a while but it took an hour or so to cross the no wind strong tide gap and eventually managed to cross the line in 2nd place behind a deserving winner Mustang Sally who had the finish line put behind them at MS1 that he missed on the way up, sailing instructions Please. Stoped for a nice swim on the way in.

I took some videos as we came into Melbourne through Port Phillip Bay from our Port Lincoln return trip on Peccadillo.

I've also done a bit of a writeup of the trip over on my blog, might like to have a look:
