Banque Populaire V has departed Lorient in France on their round the world race against the clock. The reference time for the Jules Verne Trophy circumnavigation is 48days 7hrs 44minutes. The boat is skippered by Loick Peyron and his crew have headed off in the most optimal weather window for achieving the record. Banque Populaire V has smashed a number of records already including the Trans Atlantic record where it recorded a record run of 908nm in one 24 hour period. It's also added the Fastnet record and the SNSM record to its trophy cabinet. The SNSM record was achieved with an average speed of 30 knots.
The record is currently held by Franck Cammas and his maxi trimaran groupama3. Banque Populaire V is off to an amazing start with an average for the first few days of 24 knots. The tracker (which also shows Groupama3's track and position) is at:
