Vale to Vicky Miller

All the people over the years who have sailed at Airlie Beach will know Vicky. Scotty and Vicki own Rum Raider and are regular sailors in all events.

It's with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Vicky Millar after a long illness.

Vicky had been a staunch member of the multihull fraternity for many years and more recently worked hard helping to organize major events like the Multihull Rendezvous.
Vicky’s infectious smile and joyous personality will be sorely missed by everyone.

Our sincere condolences go out to Scotty and Pete (Pinhead), their families, and all of Vicky’s friends.

Second....Saturday 10th september.... Gourmet BBQ dinner at HYC to mark the end of the Winter series... RSVP to Jose at HYC by Tuesday 6th September

Third... SOMR will be cup weekend again... Ian is preparing notice of race...racing Sat, Sun and Monday...

Hastings Yacht Club - Race 2 of winter series

This Saturday just past arrived with a forecast of 20 to 25 knots for race 2 of the Winter series which meant party time for the local multihull fleet...

With the possibility of 30 knots arriving during the race a short repeating course not too far from base was wisely set by the race committee. The mono fleet went off first downwind...the first brave soul to fly his kite ended up with no mast ... a round of thanks must go to the mono fleet for keeping us entertainined with their frequent and dramatic broaches.

Our start was rather tame...we were all late over the line...and most decided not to fly a kite with it gusting to about 30knots. Some still decided to play the angles downwind but somehow the gains were not high enough and the direct route seemed to be the way to go. Daylight Robbery and Skeedaddle soon retired with gear problems leaving Frassld, Chilli and Mustang Sally fighting for line honours. On the second time round Al on Sally decided to fly a hasty kite thinking he could sail through the finish line and sort out the mess in his leisure... Sadly for Al the race committee were also enjoying the carnage and sent us off on another lap thwarting Als plans...

At the back of the fleet With Teeth and Shuttle were having their usual fight for dominance... both boats favor the heavier conditions, one because of boat weight and the other because of crew weight... you decide...

After two and a half hours racing the first 3 boats were seperated by 10 seconds on corrected time.... Shuttle squeezed into 1st place 4 seconds ahead of With Teeth who was 6 seconds ahead of Mustang Sally...

Thanks to HYC for running a good race....

Kraken 25 C Class taking shape...

Member Owen McKenzie is making progress with his C Class and has forwarded some pics. The main hull is made from Paulownia veneers (also called Kiri and similar to Western red Cedar in its properties) and has a couple more layers to complete. Its then on to the Carbon Fibre reinforcements giving a calculated completed main hull weight of 40kgs.... not bad for a 25 foot Tri and should give some of our hot shots a run for their money...

Little Birdie

A little birdie told me today that the Skipper of a large catamaran starting with P and finishing with Peccadillo placed an order with e-marineworld.com.au for a HF radio and Sat phone.

Hasting Yacht Club Annual Dinner.

General Meeting

Due to the lack of numbers for dinner before the meeting at RMYS this Tuesday, there will be no meals provided at the club. Anyone wanting a meal should meet around 6pm and we will walk across the road and crab some tucker.

Remember meeting starts at 7.30pm so don't be late, lots to go though.

Mark Staffords Baby delivered safe.

Fellow members; Well you had the Royal Wedding and now you have the Royal Birth? That’s right folks, Mark Stafford’s golden child has arrived.
After months of listening to him crapping on about his fantastic creation, many thought it was a figment of his imagination, I can report, I have actually seen it.

Mark tells me it will be on the water by the next Audi Victoria Week, THAT’S 2012!! “I’d like to see that”. Anyone getting a boat built overseas or buying a boat, come a talk to Mark about the joys of importing a vessel. Two large things are needed, ones a wallet!!!
